ViSky
What is it?
ViSky is an interactive mapping application. It is currently used to display information about meteorological field instruments, although more functions are under development. The current release is 2.7.4.
What does it do?
The visky application provides minimal geographic maps and displays. The user adds data and functions for specific tasks by selecting packages in the main menu. visky's appearance and behavior vary according to which packages are loaded. Several packages are available, and more are under development. There are two kinds - mapdata packages, and visky packages.

Mapdata packages. These packages display the geographic background. Usually, they have high resolution data in region of interest, and low resolution data elsewhere. The user chooses a mapdata package from the File->Map data menu. Only one mapdata package can be loaded at a time. The following mapdata packages are available:
- oklahoma - has high resolution data for Oklahoma and vicinity, and low resolution data elsewhere.
- w_texas - has high resolution data for west Texas, and low resolution data elsewhere.
- se_us has high resolution data for the southeast U.S., specifically Florida, east Georgia, South Carolina, and North Carolina. It has low resolution elsewhere.

Visky packages. These packages usually display data in the map or maps, and add menus, windows, and bindings that allow the user to interact with the data. Available packages are listed in the File->Packages menu. Any number of visky packages can be loaded. The following visky packages are available:
- lines - draws lines from any source.
- dual_dop - draws dual Doppler surveillance regions for pair of radars.
- sigmet - draws Sigmet raw product volumes.
The screen shots page has pictures of the application with usage advice and suggestions. It is a good place to start.
The man pages are the official reference. Users should consult visky (n). Programmers who wish to extend and modify visky should consult visky (3).
